About this project
The client, a maxillo-facial surgeon based in East Asia, requested illustrations of the mechanism and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a disorder that causes the soft palate to block the airway when the patient is asleep.

Solutions offered by the client included both manual devices and surgical intervention and they required these both. The aim of these images was as an educational tool for OSA (obstructive sleep apnea) patients who come to his clinic.

The typically smaller East Asian skull and therefore smaller palates, contributes to why the region has high rates of OSA.

Therefore it was important to show these features anatomically and reflect the correct ethnicity and demographic.
